Im hearing the new cowboy workout facility will host over 12,000 people at one time...how will this impact the traffic on legacy drive, Lebanon and surrounding areas? Is there a traffic study on this new project?

Arthur,

In general, we do not expect the area of Lebanon & Legacy to experience much increased traffic when a 12,000-person event takes place at the new facility. Dr Pepper Ballbark, Dr Pepper Arena, and FC Dallas Stadium routinely host events of this size and the bulk of the event traffic uses the Dallas North Tollway to enter and leave those sites. The Cowboys facility will be located next to the Tollway and so we expect the same type of operation as our other large venues.

No traffic study has been done yet specifically related to the Dallas Cowboys development; however, the City of Frisco’s Thoroughfare Master Plan has long provided for plans to widen and/or add roadways in the vicinity of the Dallas Cowboys project. The Thoroughfare Master Plan is designed to provide major thoroughfares to handle the traffic from whatever might develop on any empty land in the City. Leading up to the agreement with the Dallas Cowboys, the City reviewed the schedule for the road improvements that are already outlined in the Thoroughfare Master Plan.

Typically, the City’s traffic engineers will consider conducting a traffic study once they receive specific details about a project, such as facility size, placement, and phasing. Such a study would determine what road improvements need to be made and when. In the case of the Dallas Cowboys project, the plans for the development have not yet reached the level of detail needed to commission a traffic study. Once we get more information about the development, we will determine what additional traffic studies may be needed.
